Helena: "There are a lot of pretty people in the world."
Maggie: "Yeah. It's good."
Helena: "It is good. Congratulations, genes. [pause] Not the pants."

Hi! I'm at Marlboro. I had channeled all my anxiety about this semester into last week's bears game, and in case you haven't heard, that went awfully well, and so now I am significantly less anxious. I have a subscription to the New York Times now which means I have pictures of the conquering bears on the walls of my office, cut from the pages of that fine publication. I'm feeling preeeeetty good. Today the power went out for like an hour and a half for absolutely no reason at all. It was totally beautiful and sunny, no wind, and then, no power. Wow Marlboro, you are the number one worst place on earth in terms of being totally ridiculous. Ok, time to go edit some photos on the G5.

Break is almost over. What have I accomplished?

1. Christmas and everything.
2. Like 500 pictures (how much you wanna bet I get like 10 good ones out of this? What a lame art form).
3. Several new pages of Plan notes, one Plan interview, a couple of new ideas about Plan.
4. 50% or so of my Rome center application.
5. Took the GRE.
6. Ended my relationship.
7. Got new glasses and a haircut.
8. Listened to "begin to hope" one gazillion times.
9. Saw Miriam.

ok. That's ok.

Brains and hearts are like the CIA and the FBI--too proud and stubborn to collaborate. Why oh why can something seem so clear one minute, then so cloudy, then so clear again?

2006: I knew it was bad, but I didn't know HOW bad.

My end of the year recap:
January 1, 2006: I wrote nothing. My first entry of 2006 came on 1/5 and was this: "1. I picked the wrong guy. And then I didn't even write about what it was like to go to the jail and sit in a dingy room watching the insider while i could hear the prisoners walking by in leg shackles right on the other side of the door. I'm terrible at this."

February 1, 2006: Fate Dates the Weatherman (redux)

Well, my day started off pretty good, because I did laundry last night and so I had clothes to put on. That was a good thing. But then, when I was driving to school, I ran out of gas. The gods were punishing me for my hubris.

March 1, 2006:
On the first of March, on the holiday...

Phew. I like photography again. Actually today I love it. Why? Because photography is what Ash Wednesday is all about (at least for T.S. Eliot)
"Because I know that time is always time
And place is always and only place
And what is actual is actual only for one time
And only for one place
I rejoice that things are as they are and
I renounce the blessed face
And renounce the voice
Because I cannot hope to turn again
Consequently I rejoice, having to construct something
Upon which to rejoice."

April 1, 2006:
Today would be a very good day for putting on a dress and walking somewhere. Instead I'm going to pick up my car. Poor car. They tell me he'll never be the same.

May 1, 2006
Things are very boring with me. I mostly work. I am almost done but not totally done and can't seem to push myself over the edge.

June 1, 2006
So, in lieu of employment to occupy me lately, I've been "working out" as the kids say. Obviously I'm very much a newbie (or N00B if you prefer) at this, but I am really enjoying it. Up until yesterday I was just using the elliptical trainer that jake found on the street which is now in our basement. Yesterday, though, I decided to go for a run. I did a walk/run for twenty minutes, which is the same amount of time I'd been spending on the elliptical. I didn't expect any negative consequences, since the consequences thus far have been all positive but OW PAVEMENT I HATE YOU MY LEGS ARE SO SORE OW. It hurts to sit down, it hurts to stand up. My legs hurt! That is very annoying!

July 1, 2006
I am having a rough time of it, work and school and money wise, but tonight thanks to the beneficence of my friends in the artistic community Nikki and I got to see MOVIN' OUT!

Hi! I'm in vermont! I like it here. I like my house!
October

November
I like to drink tea, but it's sort of a lot of work for not a lot of payoff.
December
I dyed my hair again, a darkish brown with hints of red. I like it ok. I'll see how it looks in the morning, and after a few washes

WHAT A COMPLETELY STUPID YEAR.

Thursday, December 21

Sorry for the long silence. The last few weeks of December ended up being pretty intense.
1. I finished the semester. I am not satisfied with the semester, nor does finishing it have any real affect on the amount of work I should be doing, but for better or worse it is over, I am home, and I only have one more semester of college left.

2. We had Cabaret, and I had a ton of fun, and then I quit the social committee, and I feel very good about that.

3. Lydia kicked Plan's butt, and is moving out of the Manor and on to bigger and better things, and I will miss her.

4. I have major writing and revising to do and I am very overwhelmed and I don't want to do it.

5. There were too many Havard girls on my plane from Boston, and it made me cranky. Harvard girls are too skinny. What is that about.

6. Despite all my rhetoric, I still have no plans for next year or really the desire to come up with any. I am taking the GRE on January 9th and after that I'll know whether I should bother pretending any longer that I'm going to be moving up in the world.

7. I got a myspace: www.myspace.com/mymoodringsays. I am friends with M. Ward and Jen Lekman, and that makes me happy. Also Achewood.

8. I am an idiot and a failure and I cannot take a photograph to save my life and I will never finish this, and if I do it will be terrible, and there is no way I am as smart as I like to think I am, and I will never be thin and I will never be popular. It feels good to get that out.

New things

New PHONE!:

New hair color:

Yay for newness.

Monday, December 4

I wish this was all over and I was in Ireland already without a CARE in the WORLD... except I suppose from now on, unless I magically get a good-paying job I enjoy and a nice apartment with people I like, I will ALWAYS HAVE CARES FROM NOW ON. OH MY GOD THAT SUCKS.

Sorry to use bad language but I jut don't know how else to express it.
I just ate a cup of froot loops and dang if that is not the flavor of lake geneva.
Sometimes I worry that I'll never make pictures again that I love as much as the ones that I made before I ever took a photo class.
